This photograph depicted a close view of a patient’s face, focusing on her nasolabial region, and reveals the presence of herpes simplex lesions around her mouth, due to the herpes simplex virus type-1, (HSV-1) pathogen. These lesions are sometimes referred to as cold sores, fever blisters, or more technically, as recurrent herpes labialis.
