This photomicrograph reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by an egg of the dwarf tapeworm, Hymenolepis nana. On the inner of the two membranes, surrounding the Hymenolepis nana egg, there are two poles, from which 4 to 8 polar filaments spread out between the two membranes. The oncosphere, or larval stage, has six hooks.
