This image depicts a close view of a patient’s left eye, revealing a conjunctival cloudiness, referred to as gonococcal conjunctivitis, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria. Gonococcal conjunctivitis in caused by a direct inoculation of the conjunctival membrane of the eye with N. gonorrhoeae bacteria, causing this membrane, covering the eye, to become inflamed, edematous, and produce a purulent exudate.
