This 1976 photograph was captured overlooking a watery region of the Umatilla Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Since 1971, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), have maintained a collaborative surveillance system for collecting, and periodically reporting data that relate to occurrences, and causes of waterborne-disease outbreaks.
