This photomicrograph of a skin tissue sample, revealed some of the histopathology associated with a case of blastomycosis, due to the fungal organism, Blastomyces dermatitidis. In this view, you are able to see the reproductive process taking place known as budding. The larger of the two cells in the center, was giving rise to another cell, which began as an outcropping of the original cell, and which contained its requisite complement of genetic material. Also important, were the numerous white blood cells (WBCs), known as neutrophils, that were in the vicinity of these fungal organisms.
