This Illustration depicts the process involved in the formation of Coccidioides immitis arthroconidia, the infections form of this fungal organism. Note how it is from the intact arthroconidia, which the spherules, containing numerous endospores, develop. Also, note that multinucleated arthroconidia alternate with degenerated cells, thereby, enabling the fracturation of the hyphal elements in order to facilitate anthroconidial dissemination.
