This photomicrograph reveals ultrastructural details exhibited by a single Diphyllobothrium latum tapeworm ovum. Unembryonated Diphyllobothrium spp. eggs measure 58µm-76µm x 40µm-51µm, and are passed in the stool. They are oval, or ellipsoidal with an operculum at one end that can be inconspicuous. At the opposite, or abopercular end, a small knob is present, though at times, is barely discernible.
