Caption:
This image depicts the appearance of a new vaccination site adjacent to an old vaccination scar. Note the circumferential, erythematous ring surrounding the re-vaccination site, which at this stage, had developed into a pustular lesion that would eventually scab over, and fall off. Until the scab is sloughed off the site remains contagious, and can spread the live vaccinia virus, both to others, and elsewhere on the recipient’s body as well.
