This 1969 photograph highlights the head and shoulder region of a patient with chickenpox, demonstrating the difference between smallpox and chickenpox on the 7th day of rash. By the 7th day of chickenpox, only scabs are present and several have already come off. The rash produced by smallpox, however, will still be in its pustular stage, by day-7.
