This photomicrograph reveals some of the ultrastructural details exhibited by the achlorophyllic microalgal organism, Prototheca stagnora, confirming the presence of these organisms in this unidentified specimen . These organisms, commonly found worldwide in soil and watery environments, appear very similar to yeasts, and are very closely associated with Chlorella sp. P. zopfii and P. wickerhamii have been shown to cause infections in humans.
