This photograph depicts two culture flasks that contained a growth medium consisting of a combination of Sabouraud dextrose agar, and brain heart infusion, and is known as SABHI agar. In this case, the antimicrobials chloramphenicol, and cycloheximide were also added to the medium, which was then inoculated with the fungal organism, Histoplasma capsulatum. The flask on the left was incubated for 8-weeks, and the flask on the right was incubated for a period of 3-weeks. The H. capsulatum was harvested from a culture grown from sediment of concentrated sputum.
