Caption:
This image depicts a view of a patient’s palms, revealing the presence of cutaneous lesions, known as syphilids, which had been as a result of a secondary syphilitic reaction, caused by the bacterium, Treponema pallidum. The second stage starts when one or more areas of the skin break into a rash that appears as rough, red or reddish brown spots, both on the palms of the hands and on the bottoms of the feet. Even without treatment, rashes clear up on their own.
