Description:This photomicrograph depicts the fungal organism, Trichosporon cutaneum, also known synonymously as Trichosporon beigelii, formerly known as Trichosporon giganteum that was isolated from a monkey.
Members of the genus Trichosporon are isolated from soil, water samples, vegetables, mammals, and birds. They are part of the normal flora of the mouth, skin and nails, and are the causative agent of superficial and deep infections in humans.
