You are looking at a close view of a patient’s skin at the site of a chigger bite, 24 hours after the bite had occurred. Note the blister, or bleb at the bite site, which had been inflicted by a larval harvest mite of the genus, Trombicula. These bites can cause intense itching, and reddish welts on skin, but are not known to transmit infectious diseases in the United States, however, in some Asian countries, they can be vectors of scrub typhus.
