This photomicrograph reveals some of the ultrastructural details exhibited at the proximal end of the parasitic rat tapeworm, Hymenolepis diminuta. You are looking at the H. diminuta scolex, and can see the two suckers that allow it to secure itself on the host’s intestinal mucosa.
