This 2003 photomicrograph of a lung tissue specimen, revealed some of the histopathologic changes due to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Histopathology included diffuse alveolar damage, and in the center of the image was a multinucleated giant cell with no conspicuous viral inclusions.
