This image depicts a step in the pre-stain process, using a technique practiced to add a specimen to a microscope slide. The lab tech was applying the specimen suspension using a wire loop. The slide would then be allowed to dry, then stained using the technique appropriate to the characteristics of the suspected microorganism, i.e., Gram stain, Giemsa stain, etc.
