This 1977 image depicts a laboratorian, who was shown using a mechanized pipette to extract amniotic fluid cells from a Falcon Flask, all done within the confines of a vertical flow hood. Amniotic fluid may be used in the prenatal diagnosis of aneuploidy, a condition involving the presence of too few, or too many chromosomes, or other chromosomal abnormalities.
