Here, posed for the camera in this 1975 image, was Dr. Edward Brink, who was helping load a truck, prior to going into the bush in in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, formerly known as Nepal. Dr, Brink, as well as many other public health experts, were in Nepal during the country’s smallpox eradication efforts. In 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global eradication of smallpox, and recommended that all countries cease vaccination.
