Seated in a hospital bed, these are the legs of a patient infected with smallpox, during an epidemic in Kosovo, Yugoslavia in March and April, 1972. During the epidemic, over 170 individuals were infected with smallpox. The outbreak began when a traveler returned to his home in Kosovo carrying the deadly virus.
