This photomicrograph of a lactophenol cotton blue stained specimen revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the fungal organism, Microsporum gypseum. The dermatophyte M. gypseum, a natural soil habitant, can cause tinea corporis and tinea capitis in humans and animals.
