This photograph depicts a dog, who’s ear was infested with brown dog ticks, Rhipicephalus sanguineus. The image was captured in September 2024, while in a Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF)-impacted community.

RMSF is a serious disease spread through the bite of an infected tick. Ticks can hitch a ride on clothing and pets, then attach to a person later.
