Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of numerous Gram-positive, rod-shaped, Bifidobacterium eriksonii bacteria. This specimen was obtained from a blood agar plate, which had been cultured for 48hrs. Bifidobacterium spp. May take multiple forms based on their rod-shaped morphology, including curved rods, clubbed rods, and Y-shaped, or bifurcated rods, hence the derivation of their genus’ nomenclature.
