These slant cultures were growing Actinomyces viscosus bacterial colonies, and revealed the oxygen requirements of this bacterium. Tube #1 provided an aerobic atmosphere, Tube #2 provided an aerobic atmosphere with added carbon dioxide (CO2), Tube #3 provided an anaerobic atmosphere with added CO2, and Tube #4 provided an anaerobic atmosphere with no CO2. These environmental ingredients lead to colonial growth patterns indicative of the oxygen requirements needed by A. viscosus to thrive.
