This photomicrograph revealed the presence of the bacterium, Fusobacterium fusiforme, which had been cultured in a thioglycollate medium, and incubated for a 48 hour time period. F. fusiforme is a spindle shaped, Gram-negative bacteria, which colonizes the gingival sulcus of the human oral cavity, and has also been isolated from infections of the upper respiratory tract.
