This photograph depicts a close view of an interdigital space on the foot of a patient, who presented with this case of ringworm of the toes, known as tinea pedis, also referred to as athletes foot. Tinea pedis is a fungal infection of the feet, principally involving the toe webs and soles. Athletes foot can be caused by the fungi Epidermophyton floccosum, or some members of the genus, Trichophyton.
