Caption:
This image depicts a Petri dish culture plate contained an unidentified growth medium, which had been inoculated with the fungal organism, Piedraia hortae. The culture was incubated for an undisclosed period, and had given rise to this dark brown to black outer perimeter, with a white central region. Note the characteristic reddish agar surrounding the colony’s perimeter caused by a reddish pigment produced by the colonial organisms.
