This photograph depicts a close frontal view of what is referred to as a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate quadrant plate. Notes indicated that all quadrants contained carbohydrates, being that the results of this test would indicate whether the unidentified bacterial organisms used to inoculate the plate, possessed the ability to process the added carbohydrates by way of fermentation. Bromthymol blue 1% added to the media as an indicator, turns yellow in the presence of an acidic environment, which occurs during the fermentation process. It appears that the bacteria added to quads 1 and 3, were fermentation negative, while those organisms added to quads 2 and 4, were able to process the added carbohydrates, producing a yellow bromthymol blue color change.
