This photograph depicts a close frontal view of what is referred to as a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate II quadrant plate, and focused on the quadrant that had contained the LD agar supplemented with glucose. This half plate view shows how the addition of two different unidentified bacteria, separately added to the left and right quadrants, produced a positive result on the left, as evidenced by the yellow-colored bacterial streak, and no color change on the right, indicating no fermentation of glucose. Bromthymol blue 1% added to the media as an indicator, turns yellow in the presence of an acidic environment, which occurs during the fermentation process. Hence, this test provided a positive result for the presence of glucose fermentation on the right.
