Caption:
This photograph depicts a close frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate that had contained a blood agar medium, which had been inoculated with an unidentified anaerobic bacterium. A sodium polyanethol sulfonate (SPS) impregnated disk was laid atop the bacterial film, which caused a zone of inhibited growth to develop, due to the organism’s sensitivity to the SPS. The growth of certain microorganisms including, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Gardnerella vaginalis, and Haemophilus ducreyi is inhibited by SPS.
