Caption:
Under a magnification of 600X, this photomicrograph of a PAS-stained avian lung tissue sample, designated tissue sample #323, highlighted some of the histopathologic findings in a case of pulmonary aspergillosis. This was an unidentified species of caged parrot, which had been infected with the fungal organism, Aspergillus fumigatus. Note the network of numerous, darkly stained, filamentous mycelia traversing the tissue specimen. See PHIL 24795, for another view of this specimen.
