This photograph was captured during a field study involving the capture of bats with this automatic capture device known as a harp trap, composed of monofilament nylon lines strung as a parallel vertical array. This bat trap design was created in 1958, by US Public Health Service (USPHS) veterinarian, Denny Constantine, DVM. The trap had been installed presumably to capture bats in order to document the bat species present in this are, as well as to test the mammals for the presence of various arboviral pathogens.
