Under a magnification of 500X, and using a direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) staining technique, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of filamentous, Actinomyces naeslundii bacterial organisms. When growing as filaments, these Gram-positive rods are often described as appearing like dust bunnies under the microscope. spp. are usually found only in immunosuppressed patients, such as those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
