This photomicrograph of a kitten’s intestine highlights the histopathologic changes that had manifested as a result of a case of amebiasis, due to the intestinal protozoan parasite, Entamoeba histolytica. Note the mucosal ulceration that had resulted from the amoebic infestation, and the shape of the ulcer, as it eroded into the mucosal layer, and undercut the adjacent epithelium.
