Harvested from a lesion on the leg of a horse, this tissue sample proved to be a necrotic mass, which resulted from a fungal infection known as phycomycosis, a form or mucormycosis. The pathogen was found to be i>Pythium insidiosum, formerly referred to as Hypomyces destruens. See PHIL 27412, for a photomicrograph that highlighted the histopathology exhibited by this mass at an ultrastructural level.
