This was a photomicrograph of a tissue sample harvested from a horse’s cheek with a case of pythiosis, a form of phycomycosis, caused by the fungal organism, Pythium insidiosum, formerly referred to as Hypomyces destruens. This was one of the chronic inflammatory granules within the lesion.
