Under a magnification of 450X, this photomicrograph of a Giemsa-stained avian brain tissue, highlights some of the histopathology caused by the parasite, Plasmodium gallinaceum. Here, you see the congestion of a capillary due to the exoerythrocytic stage of P. gallinaceum development taking place in the capillary endothelial cells, as well as sequestration of red blood cells (RBCs) inside that capillary lumen.
