This image depicts a close posterior view of the skin surface a Filipino patient’s back, highlighting the presence of two hypopigmented, plaque-like lesions, which were diagnosed as an early case of leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, caused by the Gram-positive bacterium, Mycobacterium leprae. See PHIL 26966, for another view of this patient’s posterior torso and thighs, revealing a number of additional early leprosy lesions.
