This image depicts a posterior view of the skin surface a Filipino patient’s back, buttocks, and thighs, highlighting the presence of a number of hypopigmented, plaque-like lesions, which were diagnosed as an early case of leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, caused by the Gram-positive bacterium, Mycobacterium leprae. See PHIL 26967, for another view of this patient’s posterior right flank, revealing a closer view of the two lesions in that region.
