This 2002 photograph depicts an example of a 100 dose vial of the dried smallpox vaccine, as well as 2.5mL of the diluent contained in a syringe, used to reconstitute the dried vaccine known as Dryvax®. As of 2007, Dryvax® had been replaced with ACAM2000®, manufactured by Acambis, a division of Sanofi Pasteur. Vaccinia vaccine does not contain smallpox (variola) virus, but does contain live, Vaccinia viral particles.
