This is a photograph depicting 3-pupae of the Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito, also known as the southern house mosquito. These pupae were shown floating in standing water. The pupal stage represents the last stage of the C. quinquefasciatus life cycle, before adulthood. Pupae develop into adult, flying mosquitoes in 2 to 3-days.
