Under a magnification of 454X, this photomicrograph depicted a Gram-stained smear specimen, which highlighted these Gram-positive, rod-shaped, Actinomyces naeslundii bacteria. Note the long strands of bacteria attached end-to-end, resembling a branched network of hyphal-like filaments, much like those seen in fungal organisms.
