Used in a Public Awareness campaign, this 1989 image depicted a person receiving acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) information in her mail. The Understanding AIDS campaign, marked the first time the federal government had attempted to contact virtually every resident, directly by mail, regarding a major public health problem.
