This photograph depicts a frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate that was being used in an Actinomyces serology study. Highlighting what is known as an agar-gel diffusion test. The central well contained A. naeslundii, National Communicable Disease Center (NCDC) X600 (A. naeslundii) labeled antiglobulin. Soluble heterologous antigens were placed in each of six peripheral wells. The contents of these wells, were allowed to diffuse through the agar gel, producing an opaque, white line known as a precipitin line, indicating that a reaction had taken place between the complementary antibody, i.e., NCDC X600, and the antigens in the peripheral wells.
