Under a magnification of 1200X, this photomicrograph highlights some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the fungal organism, Fonsecaea compacta. Note the characteristic septate hyphae, light brown pigmented, septate, suberect conidiophore, which was branched at its apex, atop which, you can see numerous, barrel-shaped, brown pigmented conidia. Some of the conidia appeared to be undergoing the reproductive process of budding.
