Caption:
This image depicted type plant types, each of which grow from a subterranean bulb. On the left was the daffodil of the genus, Narcissus, highlighting its bright yellow flower, alongside two daffodil bulbs. On the right, were two types of onion of the genus, Allium, a white onion, and on the far right, a green onion, or scallion. Note the similar appearance of the daffodil bulb to that of the onions, which becomes important when it is mistakenly ingested, for Narcissus sp. bulbs contain an alkaloid poison known as lycorine.
