This image depicts a dorsal view of a coiled, southern copperhead snake, Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix. A venomous reptile, the southern copperhead is a denizen of the pine and deciduous forests of southeastern United States, and perhaps one of the best known, and widest ranging copperhead subspecies.
