This image depicted a left posterior-oblique view of a young girl’s head. This patient had undergone a debridement of her scalp, removing a crusty layer of fungal infested dead tissue, caused by the organism, Trichophyton schoenleinii. Note the fresh, granulation tissue covering the healing skin atop her entire head. This fungal infection known as favus, or tinea favosa, was an extreme case of tinea capitis. This infection was caused by the fungal organism, Trichophyton schoenleinii. See PHIL 24725, for another view of this child’s condition, before any therapeutic intervention had taken place.
