Caption:
This image depicted a right lateral view of a young girl’s head, highlighting the severe fungal infestation of her scalp, causing almost total hair loss, as well as crusty, raw, erythematous scalp lesions, all attributed to a fungal infection known as favus, or tinea favosa, an extreme case of tinea capitis. This infection was caused by the fungal organism, Trichophyton schoenleinii. See PHIL 24726, for another view of this child’s condition.
