Caption:
This image depicts five test tube slant cultures, each containing an unidentified growth medium, that were inoculated with the fungal organism, Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. granulare, which was harvested from a patient’s scalp and beard. This organism was determined to be the cause of the patient’s ringworm infection. Note the predominantly flat, powdery colonies, each with a slightly raise central region.
